Fresco "The library of the city"

landmark

The Mur des Canuts covers over twelve hundred square meters of blank wall with a hyper-realistic depiction of a neighborhood street. It portrays the sloping staircases, shuttered windows, and bustling residents of the Croix-Rousse district. When artists from CitéCréation painted the original version in nineteen eighty-seven, they included trompe l’oeil balconies that tricked passing pedestrians. Every ten years, the mural receives an update to reflect the natural aging of the residents and the changing fashions of the people depicted on the facade.
