You are walking through an area that was once known as the Bois des Bouleaux, or Birch Wood. Long before this became an urban neighborhood, the site was a dense forest covering the hilltop. By the late eighteenth century, this woodland served as a popular destination for Parisians who traveled out from the city to experience rural life and enjoy the local atmosphere.
