Palace of Culture

The Kulturpalast in Dresden features a massive, glass-walled facade that reflects the city skyline while housing a concert hall, library, and cabaret. Built in nineteen sixty-nine, the building served as a flagship socialist cultural center for East Germany. Its architects designed the interior auditorium as a fan-shaped space to host everything from political congresses to symphony performances. When city officials proposed tearing it down in the nineteen nineties, hundreds of citizens protested to keep the structure standing, eventually securing its status as a protected monument.
