Fürstenzug

The Fürstenzug is a sprawling mural composed of over twenty-three thousand Meissen porcelain tiles, stretching three hundred and thirty feet along a stable wall. It depicts the procession of the Wettin dynasty, featuring thirty-five margraves, dukes, and kings spanning eight centuries of Saxon history. In the early twentieth century, these delicate ceramic tiles replaced an earlier plaster painting that had weathered away. When Allied bombers leveled much of Dresden in nineteen forty-five, the mural remarkably survived with only minor damage.
