Secundogenitur

The Secundogenitur sits on the Bruehl Terrace as a pale, neo-baroque palace topped with a distinctive, curved copper roof. It housed the private library and art collection of the younger sons of the Saxon royal house, who were excluded from the throne. Prince Max of Saxony once kept his extensive collection here, away from the state archives. The building survived the firebombing of nineteen forty-five, though its interiors suffered heavy damage. Today, the space serves the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts.
