Schloßplatz

The Schloßplatz features a high, uneven cobblestone expanse that tilts sharply toward the Elbe River. This open square serves as the primary gateway to the Dresden Royal Palace, framed by the dark, blackened stone of the Catholic Court Church. In nineteen forty-five, firestorms turned the surrounding baroque buildings into hollow shells. Recovery crews spent decades sorting through thousands of stone fragments, painstakingly matching them to original blueprints to reconstruct the facades exactly as they stood before the collapse.
