Archer (1902; Ernst Moritz Geyger)

The Archer stands in the center of a small courtyard in Dresden, depicted as a bronze youth pulling his bowstring taut. Ernst Moritz Geyger cast this figure in nineteen oh two, choosing to capture the precise instant of tension before the release of the arrow. During the firebombing of nineteen forty-five, the statue vanished from public view, only to be rediscovered years later in a cellar. Its return to this spot marked a recovery of the city's pre-war artistic ambition.
