Königsufer

The Königsufer is a wide, grass-covered embankment stretching along the northern bank of the Elbe River, marked by a stone staircase that leads directly down to the water. City planners in the nineteen thirties cleared the existing buildings here to create a monumental stage for Nazi propaganda rallies. They intended to line the river with massive administrative halls. Construction stopped when the war effort took precedence, leaving behind only the open, sweeping view of the Dresden skyline that draws people today.
