Badi Chaupar

Four intersecting streets meet at Badi Chaupar, creating a massive stone cross at the heart of Jaipur. This intersection acts as the grand junction of the walled city, punctuated by the tall, carved Hawa Mahal on one corner. Maharaja Jai Singh the second designed this square in seventeen twenty-seven, placing it at the center of his grid-planned capital. Beneath the bustling market traffic, vast underground tunnels remain from the era, built to transport water through the city's intricate irrigation system.
