Nomura-ke Samurai Heritage Residence

The Nomura-ke residence stands out for its cypress-wood entrance gate, which once belonged to a much larger estate. For eleven generations, the Nomura family served the Maeda clan as high-ranking samurai administrators here in the Nagamachi district. When the feudal system collapsed in the nineteenth century, the estate was dismantled and sold off. A businessman eventually bought the main structure and moved it to this spot. He preserved the complex garden, where a waterfall tumbles over rocks collected centuries ago.
