Asanogawa Bridge

The Asanogawa Bridge spans the river with three distinct, steel arches painted a deep, traditional red. It replaced a series of wooden structures that regularly washed away during the fierce flooding of the Asano River. When engineers completed this iron version in nineteen twenty-four, they aimed for permanence in a city prone to fire and water damage. Local writer Izumi Kyoka often walked this crossing, weaving the bridge and its surrounding atmosphere into the ghostly, atmospheric tales that defined his literary career.
