Kanazawa Shinise Kinenkan

The Kanazawa Shinise Kinenkan features a distinct facade of dark, weathered wooden slats and traditional tile roofing that sets it apart from the surrounding modern streetscape. Originally built as a pharmacy called Nakaya in the sixteen hundreds, it served the samurai class with herbal medicines and goods from around Japan. The shop survived for centuries until it closed in the nineteen seventies. Inside, the original apothecary drawers and cedar wood interiors remain, preserving the quiet atmosphere of a Kanazawa merchant house.
