Akarizaka

Akarizaka is a narrow, stone-paved slope winding between the wooden fences and traditional earthen walls of the Kazuemachi geisha district. Unlike the broad, bustling streets nearby, this incline remains quiet, lined with teahouses that have served local patrons for over a century. During the Meiji era, the geisha of this neighborhood famously used the path to travel between their homes and the nearby Asano River. Today, the moss-covered stones still mark the same route they walked in their silk kimonos.
