The Mayumizaka Gate features a distinctive thatched roof that marks the primary historical entrance to Kenrokuen. While the garden served as the private retreat for the ruling Maeda clan for over two centuries, this gate was reserved for their formal arrivals from Kanazawa Castle. In eighteen seventy-four, when the garden finally opened to the public, this threshold became the main point of entry for visitors, transitioning from a guarded daimyo checkpoint to a space accessible to anyone walking into the grounds.
