Ishikawa Gate

The Ishikawa Gate stands out for its unique two-story design, featuring a classic tiled roof adorned with lead plates that catch the light in a distinct, silvery hue. As the primary entrance to Kanazawa Castle, it replaced an earlier structure that burned down in the late eighteenth century. When local carpenters rebuilt the gate in seventeen eighty-eight, they used heavy timber and stone to create a fortress-like defensive position. It protected the daimyo's seat of power from intruders for over a hundred years.
