Nezumita-mon Gate

The Nezumita-mon Gate stands out for its dark, charcoal-colored walls, coated in a special soot-mixed plaster that gives the wood a distinctive, muted finish. This gate served as the primary entrance to the former residence of a high-ranking retainer in the Kaga Domain. During the mid-nineteenth century, a fire destroyed the original structure, and the subsequent reconstruction left the gatehouse with its signature appearance. It remains a rare example of a private samurai entrance still standing in its original location.
