The two-story wooden structure at the corner of the Higashi Chaya district features a lattice facade painted in a distinct, dark crimson lacquer. Built in the late Edo period, this teahouse once served as a high-end social club for Kanazawa’s wealthiest merchants and officials. Geisha performed traditional dances and music behind these sliding paper doors for patrons who paid for prestige and privacy. Today, the building houses a teahouse where visitors can still sit on the original tatami mats.
