הבית השרוף - The Burnt House

The Burnt House sits six meters below the modern street level, encased in the stone foundations of the Jewish Quarter. Thick layers of ash coat the interior walls, a dark, physical remnant of the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in seventy CE. Inside, archaeologists discovered a kitchen and workrooms left exactly as they were when the fire hit. A heavy iron spearhead lay on the floor, alongside the charred remains of wooden furniture and scattered stone weights used by a wealthy priestly family.
