Drieharingenbrug

The Drieharingenbrug carries a coat of arms featuring three herring on the bridge house wall. This stone arch bridge replaced a wooden predecessor in sixteen seventy-nine, connecting the Binnen Brouwersstraat across the Brouwersgracht canal. Back then, barrels of beer were rolled across this stretch constantly, heading toward ships bound for the Baltic. Jan van der Heyden, the famous painter and inventor, helped design the street lighting nearby. Now, the bridge sits quiet, caught between the old warehouses and the water.
