Rotterdam Centraal

landmark

The stainless steel roof of Rotterdam Centraal points like a giant arrowhead toward the city center. This station replaced a nineteen fifties transit hub that struggled to handle the surge of passengers in a growing port city. Architects angled the massive terminal canopy to funnel commuters directly into the heart of Rotterdam. When the new structure opened in twenty fourteen, local residents nicknamed it the Speculaasje, because its jagged, bronze-colored profile reminded them of the traditional Dutch spiced cookie.
