Badgasse is a narrow, descending alley in Bern that connects the upper town to the Aare River. Its name comes from the medieval public baths that once operated here, where residents gathered to wash and socialize in water channeled from nearby springs. In the late fifteen hundreds, a master mason named Daniel Heintz renovated the surrounding structures, adding the stone foundations and cellar entrances that define the lane today. People still use these heavy iron doors to access the subterranean storage spaces beneath the houses.
