Cleveland House

Cleveland House sits at the edge of the Kennet and Avon Canal, marked by its distinctive curved facade that bows out over the towpath. Built in eighteen twenty-three, it served as the original headquarters for the Kennet and Avon Canal Company. Inside, the board of directors met to manage the transit of goods between Bristol and London. A private tunnel allows the canal to run directly beneath the building, carrying barges through the very foundation of the office where the tolls were collected.
