Henrietta Park features wide, gravel paths that cut through sweeping, manicured lawns and clusters of mature lime and chestnut trees. Laid out in eighteen ninety-seven to mark Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, the park replaced a former area of rough pasture. Residents of the nearby Georgian terraces paid for the gates and the initial planting. Today, the park remains a quiet enclosure, shielded from the surrounding streets by thick perimeter hedges that isolate the interior from the city’s constant noise and motion.
