The Corridor in Bath wears a glass roof that turns the afternoon light into a soft, amber haze. Built in eighteen twenty-five, this indoor shopping arcade served the elite who came to town for the thermal waters. Thomas Baldwin designed it, but the structure bears the mark of the early nineteenth century obsession with luxury retail. It remains one of the oldest covered shopping streets in England, surviving long after the original elegant crowd stopped coming to soak in the Roman baths.
