Cumberland House stands out for its curved brick facade, which bows outward to match the bend of the street in the Bishophill neighborhood. This eighteenth-century townhouse served as the residence of the Cumberland family, local gentry who used the prominent position to overlook the river traffic. When the house was constructed in seventeen fifty-five, the owners included a small stone plaque featuring the family crest embedded near the roofline, a detail that remains visible against the weathered red brick today.
