The Church of St Mary, Bishophill Junior, York.

The Church of Saint Mary, Bishophill Junior, features a distinct square tower built from re-used Roman gritstone and limestone blocks. While the rest of the structure saw major reconstruction in the nineteenth century, the masonry in this tower dates back to the Anglo-Saxon period. Local masons pieced these stones together long before the Normans arrived, leaving behind a rough, rugged patchwork of history that still anchors the corner of the churchyard today.
