Known to millions as Alfalfa from the Our Gang comedies, Switzer spent his later years working as a hunting guide and dog trainer. In nineteen fifty-nine, he went to a friend's house to collect a debt for a missing hunting dog. A fight broke out over a fifty-dollar reward, and Switzer was shot and killed during the confrontation.
