Tank Hill earns its name from the massive five-hundred-thousand-gallon water tank constructed at its summit in eighteen ninety-four. The Spring Valley Water Company built this reservoir to serve the rapidly expanding city by storing water pumped from the Laguna Honda area. The tank stood as a prominent landmark on the skyline for over sixty years, serving as a critical piece of the city's early infrastructure.
