The Minnie and Lovie Ward Recreational Center features a distinct, sprawling flat roof and wide glass windows that frame the hillside. Named after two sisters who moved to the Oceanview neighborhood in the nineteen forties, the center grew from their grassroots organizing to secure a safe space for local children. Minnie and Lovie worked for years to convince city officials that this specific site belonged to the community. Today, the facility remains a hub for the neighborhood they spent their lives shaping.
