Statue "Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole"

The bronze figure of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole wears a feathered cloak and a lei, his hand extended toward the passing traffic of Waikīkī. He stands on the site of his family’s former home, Pualeilani. Known as the Citizen Prince, Kūhiō was a royal who became a United States delegate after the monarchy fell. In nineteen twenty-one, he pushed the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act through Congress, setting aside land for native Hawaiians. He died just a year later, never seeing his program fully realized.
