The massive archway at Rowes Wharf frames a view of the harbor that changes with every shift in the tide. This granite and glass complex replaced a series of derelict piers in the mid-nineteen eighties. Architect Adrian Smith designed the central rotunda to evoke the grandeur of Boston’s maritime past, complete with a copper dome that anchors the waterfront skyline. Sailors once hauled cargo over these docks, but today, the site functions as a gateway for commuters arriving by water.
