Ancient Samarkand Bath "Hammomi Dovudi"

The Hammomi Dovudi bathhouse is marked by a cluster of low, brick-domed roofs that rise just above the street level. Built in the sixteenth century, this structure has provided a place for residents to bathe and socialize for hundreds of years. The interior walls remain thick and earthen, designed to hold in the heat from the furnace fires burning beneath the stone floors. Men from the neighborhood still gather here every week, carrying on a tradition that dates back to the Shaybanid dynasty.
