The Gumbaz Synagogue wears a humble brick facade that hides a history carved out by the nineteenth century Jewish community of Samarkand. It stands as one of the few remaining structures from the old mahalla, the neighborhood where families lived and worshiped for generations before the city shifted. Inside, the modest wooden supports and worn floors hold the silence of a congregation that once gathered here to trade stories and prayers. The building survived because the community insisted on its place.
