Barrack Street Jetty

The Barrack Street Jetty features a series of long, white wooden piers jutting straight out into the Swan River. Since eighteen fifty-nine, this site has functioned as the primary gateway for passengers arriving in Perth by boat. Captain Edward Pakenham arrived here in eighteen twenty-nine, famously struggling to find the channel through the river's shallow limestone bar. For decades, ferry captains navigated these same tricky waters, often relying on their memory of the shifting sandbanks to reach the wooden docks.
