Spanda

Spanda consists of three tall, slender bronze rings that ripple outward like water caught in motion. It sits at the edge of Elizabeth Quay, where the Swan River meets the city. The artist, Christian de Vietri, designed the sculpture to represent the Hindu concept of spanda, or the vibration of the universe. When the wind picks up, the rings frame the changing river light differently from every angle. A decade ago, the site was entirely underwater before the dredging and expansion of the quay.
