Plaza Theatre

The Plaza Theatre on Murray Street holds a narrow, recessed entrance decorated with cream and green faience tiles. When it opened in nineteen thirty-seven, it introduced Perth to the concept of the atmospheric theater, designed to make patrons feel as though they were watching a film in an open-air Spanish courtyard. Above the screen, the ceiling featured a twinkling electric starlit sky. The architect, William Leighton, even included a simulated mountain range along the side walls to complete the illusion for the audience.
