State Theatre Centre of WA

The State Theatre Centre of Western Australia is defined by a jagged, rust-colored facade of weathered steel that stands out against the surrounding city glass. It opened in twenty-ten to replace the aging Playhouse Theatre. Architect Kerry Hill designed the building to host contemporary drama, dance, and music in two distinct performance spaces. During construction, workers unearthed a buried time capsule from the original nineteen-seventies arts center, containing newspapers and theater programs that offered a small, damp glimpse into the past.
