PICA — Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts

The Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts occupies a long, brick building with a jagged, saw-toothed roofline that marks it out from the surrounding city center. Built in nineteen oh four, this site functioned for decades as a boys' school before the state government slated it for demolition. A group of artists occupied the building in the late eighties, eventually winning the right to transform the classrooms and assembly halls into gallery spaces. It remains a home for experimental work in Western Australia.
