Harper's Buildings

Harper's Buildings stands out for its decorative gables and the bold red brickwork that defines its Victorian facade on Murray Street. Built in eighteen ninety-six, the structure served as a prominent warehouse and showroom for Harper and Company, a major wholesale firm dealing in tea and provisions. Charles Harper, a local parliamentarian and newspaper owner, used this space to distribute goods across the growing colony. The ornate stonework above the entrance still displays the original owner's name, etched into the sandstone detailing.
