The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid bronze statue sits on a granite boulder at the edge of the Langelinie promenade. Commissioned in nineteen oh nine by brewer Carl Jacobsen after he saw a ballet version of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, the figure rests in a shallow part of the harbor. Sculptor Edvard Eriksen used his wife, Eline, as the model for the face and body. The statue has lost its head to vandals twice and survived multiple paint attacks since its debut in nineteen thirteen.
