Frederik's Church

The Marmorkirken features a massive copper dome that spans thirty-one meters, making it the widest church dome in Scandinavia. While construction began in seventeen forty-nine to celebrate the three-hundredth anniversary of the Oldenburg monarchy, the project stalled for over a century due to skyrocketing costs. King Frederik the Fifth had commissioned the work, but his successors abandoned the skeletal structure. It sat as a ruin of unfinished Norwegian marble until a financier bought the site in the eighteen seventies and finally completed it.
