Thorvaldsens Museum

The Thorvaldsens Museum is a block of yellow and blue concrete covered in exterior murals that depict a Greek procession. It houses the life work of Bertel Thorvaldsen, a sculptor who became Denmark’s most famous artist in the early nineteenth century. When he returned to Copenhagen from Rome in eighteen thirty-eight, the city built this structure to hold his massive collection of casts and marbles. He died before it opened, and he lies buried in the center of the courtyard today.
