Marmorbroen

The Marmorbroen, or Marble Bridge, features two tall, sandstone-clad pavilions at its entrance that look like miniature guardhouses. Built in seventeen forty-five, this bridge served as the primary, grand entrance for nobility arriving at Christiansborg Palace by carriage. Court architect Nicolai Eigtved designed it with a roadbed paved in patterned cobblestones, specifically intended to accommodate horse hooves and iron-rimmed wheels. It remains the only survivor of the original palace complex that burned down in seventeen ninety-four, escaping the flames that consumed everything else.
