Garden of the Royal Library

The Royal Library Garden is defined by a high, dark brick wall that separates this quiet courtyard from the bustle of the harbor. At its center sits a shallow reflecting pool featuring a fountain designed by Mogens Møller. King Christian the Fourth commissioned the grounds in the seventeenth century as a private space for his library staff. During the second world war, the garden served as a clandestine meeting spot for members of the Danish resistance, who exchanged intelligence beneath the trees.
