Gråbrødretorv

Gråbrødretorv features a central fountain surrounded by linden trees and colorful, seventeenth-century row houses that stand apart from the city's modern traffic. It occupies the site of a Franciscan monastery burned during the Great Fire of seventeen twenty-eight. A merchant named Christian Giørtz later rebuilt the square, hoping to attract wealthy residents with fashionable brick homes. During the German occupation in the nineteen forties, the square served as a clandestine meeting spot for members of the Danish resistance, hidden among the shadows.
