Kunsthal Charlottenborg features a long, pale yellow facade punctuated by tall, symmetrical windows and a heavy, rusticated stone portal. Built in the sixteen seventies, this palace served as the residence for Ulrik Frederik Gyldenløve, the illegitimate son of King Frederik the Third. The king granted him the land to build a house that would overshadow the nearby noble estates. Today, it operates as one of the largest contemporary art galleries in Europe, housing exhibitions behind walls that once hosted absolute monarchs.
