The Playhouse

The Playhouse juts out into the harbor on a massive, dark wood stage that seems to float over the water. Its long, horizontal glass facade faces the sea, while the interior is wrapped in a distinctive, thin layer of slender, reddish-brown bricks. Designed by the architects Lundgaard and Tranberg, the building houses the Royal Danish Theater. Back in nineteen seventy-eight, an old ferry terminal occupied this stretch of the waterfront, leaving the city disconnected from the water until this stage appeared.
