R14

food drink

The R14 restaurant occupies a heavy stone building that once served as a salt storage warehouse for the merchants of Tallinn. Its thick limestone walls and vaulted ceilings kept salt dry and protected during the nineteenth century, when the port was the center of trade in the city. The space still retains those arched, raw masonry structures today. Salt was the gold of the Middle Ages, and the merchants who built these walls controlled the flow of goods through the Baltic Sea.
