Rotermann City

The rusted, corrugated metal sheets covering the old grain elevator stand out against the sleek glass and restored limestone of the surrounding warehouses. These buildings once formed the heart of Christian Abraham Rotermann’s industrial empire, a sprawling complex where wheat was milled into flour and spirits were distilled for the Russian Empire. During the Soviet occupation, the site fell into decay, becoming a desolate ruin known as the Stalker zone. Now, the surviving kilns and storehouses serve as the city’s architectural laboratory.
