Kalaranna Promenade

The Kalaranna Promenade features a jagged concrete wall that cuts directly into the Baltic Sea, separating the modern boardwalk from the remains of the Patarei Sea Fortress. This waterfront stretch once served as a closed-off military zone where public access remained strictly forbidden for over a century. During the Soviet occupation, citizens avoided the area entirely while guards patrolled the limestone ramparts. Today, the wooden pathways run right past those same heavy stones, turning a former prison boundary into a shared public space.
